We hear the term “self-tanning” and we immediately fear the orange. I fear the orange. Snooki doesn’t, but that’s neither here nor there. Luckily there are many great bronzers and self-tanners for those of us who don’t want to look like carrots and we proudly rely on these products for a natural looking tan. Here are a few that I stand behind and a few tips on choosing and applying the right self tanner for you.
1. Clinique True Bronze Pressed Powder Bronzer in Sunkissed
This lightweight powder bronzer gives me just the right amount of radiance; you’ll like it if you have fair skin like me. It’s important to make sure you look for a powder that compliments your skin tone. If you’re looking for a deeper bronze, I love NARS Bronzing Powder and know several girls who swear by their Laguna and Casino shades.
2. Clinique Self Sun Face Tinted Lotion
Facial tanning lotions are a great alternative if you want to go sans makeup. Smooth on this oil-free lotion for a natural looking tan and (bonus!) it even covers imperfections. Just be careful, you’re not fooling anyone with a two-toned face and neck so blend in that bronzer ladies.
3. Clarins Self Tanning Instant Gel
Self-tanning your body can be a risky undertaking. Again, remember to choose a shade that compliments your skin tone. When tanning your entire body you will contort into a human pretzel but it’s worth it. Self-Tanning Yoga anyone? To avoid streaks the key is to gently exfoliate beforehand then use a lotion or gel-based self-tanner and apply it in circular motions until it’s absorbed. It is idiot proof, I promise. Another friend-tested product is St.Tropez’s quick-drying Self Tan Bronzing Mousse. It gets rave reviews and I plan on trying it next.
